St James is a small Christian community in the heart of Leith. Every Sunday, folk of very different ages and backgrounds gather around the Lord’s table to share bread and wine, just as others have done here for over 300 years.
Our worship normally begins around 10.45 am - you can find directions here.

The creation of this space is an integral part of how we come together as a community. Our emphasis on visual and participative worship, as well as on the ‘word’, aims to include people of different ages and abilities. We place high value on including children in worship (a work in progress!).

We also believe that  music is the possession of the whole people of God, and not just a group of talented performers, so we aim to encourage multi-part congregational song. We don’t always get  things ‘right’ - indeed, we regard acceptance and the freedom to fail as much more important!

At the turning points of the Christian ‘year’ - from Advent through to Pentecost - we transform our worship space in creative ways, to help us re-tell the age-old story.

These Transformations are not  intended merely to ‘decorate’ the church, but to create a liturgical space which, together with our Sunday worship, enables us to engage in holistic ways with the significant moments of the Christian drama.
