St James is a small Christian community in the heart of Leith. Every Sunday, folk of very different ages and backgrounds gather around the Lord’s table to share bread and wine, just as others have done here for over 300 years.
You’re welcome to join us for worship on a Sunday if you can - you can find directions
here. Details of upcoming services are listed in the Diary.

With Christians everywhere, we’re

celebrating this Easter season and, inspired
by the central stories of Christ’s resurrection,

are exploring again the great life-themes of rebirth
and growth.

Some folk took time to prepare our worship space for Easter
using seasonal colours, images of new-life, and representations of
folded cloth (the folded grave-clothes of Christ). The children
created a joyful clamjamfry of paper butterflies (what’s the proper
collective pronoun for butterflies?) - wonderful symbols of new life
and freedom.

Carol Marples works with churches and agencies all over the UK as a community
and liturgical artist, encouraging and enabling the use of visual arts in worship.

The Vestry of St James are pleased to have seconded Carol to St James on a part-time basis to continue and develop the work she does here.

Ken Cockburn’s new collection of poetry  - On The Flyleaf, is published by Luath Press. More details at the publisher’s website.

“One of the principal strengths of Cockburn's poetry is its exploration of the life that is contained in seemingly trivial, small or uneventful moments. The result is gentle, meditative poetry that is occasionally opaque but often subtly powerful.”

QUIZAID NIGHT at St James, Friday 16th May, 7.30pm

A fun family quiz night, as part of Christian Aid Week.

For the very first time, Christian Aid is inviting smart Alecs from all over the country to put their money

where their brains are and enter or join a team for a Quizaid night. It’s guaranteed to be a fun way of exercising the grey matter and helping people in the world’s poorest communities to live better lives. No need to buy a ticket - just come on the night. BYOB. Fair Trade Stall.

Hire St James as a venue! Various community groups use St James during the week, and recent months have seen big improvements in our facilities (a new

disabled toilet facility and most recently a brand new kitchen). If you need a space for your community or arts group, do contact us to discuss availability (lots of spaces available during the day).
